  • Gabapentin to Reduce Opioid Use Postoperatively (GROUP) in Children

    The primary objective of this study is to determine if the peri and post operative use of gabapentin in children reduces the need for narcotics after thoracic surgery. We hypothesize that patients who are given gabapentin will need fewer morphine equivalents postoperatively than those who were not given gabapentin

  • Telehealth vs In-Person Evaluation of Addiction Treatment After Visiting the Emergency Department

    open to eligible people ages 18 years and up

    Main study objective: compare long-term buprenorphine treatment outcomes for patients who start buprenorphine for opioid use disorder (OUD) in the emergency department and are then referred to get outpatient buprenorphine treatment either via telehealth or at an in-person clinic. Researchers will: Compare rates of establishing outpatient OUD treatment, how long patients stay on buprenorphine, and patients' experience with care to determine whether patient experiences and outcomes are better for patients referred to telehealth treatment versus patients patients referred to in-person treatment after they leave the emergency department. Participants will: Be recruited from 3 different hospital emergency departments. Answer questionnaires at baseline and then 1, 3, 6, and 9 months after their initial emergency department visit.

  • Coordinating Outpatient bupreNorphiNe for Emergency Care and Continuing Treatment

    The main purpose of this stepped wedge trial will be to test the impact of a bundle of implementation strategies designed to improve ED-outpatient care coordination on long-term buprenorphine retention among adult patients who start buprenorphine for opioid use disorder in a hospital emergency department (ED) and then are referred for continued outpatient buprenorphine treatment after they leave the ED. Our hypothesis is that adopting the bundle of implementation strategies will be associated with subsequent increases in: A) Cumulative number of days with active buprenorphine prescription at 3, 6, and 12 months after patients' initial ED visit (6 months = primary outcome) B) Proportion of patients with active buprenorphine prescriptions without gaps in buprenorphine coverage of more than 7 days at 3, 6, and 12 months after patients' initial ED visit C) Proportion of patients who fill at least 1 outpatient buprenorphine prescription within 30 days of their ED visit D) Clinician reported quality of ED-outpatient care coordination and care transitions

  • ENDOblock: Bilateral Superficial Cervical Blocks With Local Wound Infiltration in Thyroid Surgery

    This is a single center, prospective, double-blinded randomized controlled trial comparing the efficacy of bilateral superficial cervical plexus blocks (BSCPB) with local wound infiltration vs placebo with local wound infiltration in reducing thyroid surgery postoperative pain. Primary outcomes assessed are post operative pain, quality of life/recovery, post operative nausea/vomiting and opioid use.
